Research Review

After analyzing 12 different photograph, all including the decay theme but using it in different ways, I learned different techniques and skills. I found out about the depth of field in a photograph and how it effects the image by drawing the viewers eye through to the focus point. This is a good way of manipulating a photograph and the viewer to what you want them to see in the image. I also learned about framing and how important this is in making a picture look professional. The way you frame a picture influences the way that someone looks at it, the way the viewer moves through the picture. For example, there could be the main body of the object slightly off centre but then reaching up towards the centre of the image and towards the top, this would make the viewer move around the whole photo taking in different aspects, not just look at one spot in middle. Angles are just as important to framing as they can create a huge difference in the feeling you get from a photograph, a low angle shot looking up to something can make it look intimidating, whereas a high angle shot can make the object look intimidated and less superior.  There is also many different warmth's to each photo, some are cold looking with a blue or black and white hue to it, others have a more warm feel with a orange or brown hue.

Your eye is first drawn to the rectangular shapes that the concrete stairs make. There is high contrast lighting in this photo, lots of shadow is created from this. The light shines onto the right side of the image and there is lots of shadow cast on the left side.
The quality of the photograph is fairly good, you can see the different marks and textures n the concrete and metal.
A small aperture is used in this photograph so lots of light is let in to the picture. I am going to experiment with aperture in my experimentation photographs, using wide and small aperture. Also the angle is very low in this photograph, I will also be experimenting with different angles in my own photographs.

This picture has a very eery feel to it, it looks like something out of a horror film. I want to create this atmosphere in my own photographs. The colours in the photograph have been dulled down to help create the spooky atmosphere. Also, there are lots of shadows in the image, the beams and the decaying bed cast shadows across the room. I will use lights and shaddows in my photographs to create different tones within the image. The photograph is framed with one exterior wall and the sloping roof with the old wooden beams. The bed is in the centre of the image, the main attraction of this photograph. The light shines on to the top of the bed, showing the decaying mattress and the frame of the bed is in a range of shadows casting across the floor.

I like the focus that is used in this photograph, the way that the feet and legs of the unknown person are in focus and the cans blur out further to the back of the picture. The picture is quite dull in colour as it has been shot in black and white and although the main focus of the picture is not central it still draws your eye to it as the rest of the foreground and background are out of focus. This photograph uses a similar idea to what I would like to use, the person being anonymous, almost like a ghost. There is a lot of light in this photograph, the light is mainly in the background of the photograph where the bottles fade out in a blur. The photo has been taken from a very low angle, almost at foot level, this gives a different view of the photo, it's very real, whereas some photographs that are facing up to the sky seem more dream like and surreal.

I like the use of the mirror in this photo and it being the centre focus as well as the woman. I would like to use mirrors and reflection to create a diverse photograph. The different angles of the woman's face and  the different shadows and the way the light hits her face in different places creates a lot of contrast in the picture. The quality of this picture isn't very high, this is due to it being a video which I have taken a screen shot of. There is very low lighting in this photograph, the only light coming from behind and hitting the woman's face. This shot is composed of the dressing table in the centre background with the woman in the centre mid-ground which is what your eye is initially drawn to.
